Crystal Thursday- Crystal Magic

Today, I am working in our little treasure box of a crystal shop sitting here wondering how I can possibly begin to put into words the profound experience of crystal healing.  It feels like I am setting out to capture a rainbow. (Ironically that is something that crystals are prolific at doing, maybe I should just ask them?)

Iceland Spar- calcite
I have experienced crystals in many different ways.  For me they are enchanting, beautiful, soothing, energizing, fascinating, and precious.  But there is even more to their magic and beauty than meets the eye, or even the heart.  Crystals have the remarkable ability to heal, support, connect, inspire, and ignite passions within us.  The magic of crystals is subtle, but it is profound
Crystals become activated by our willingness to become transformed by them. When we hold a crystal or even stand near one and become silent inside we enter vibrational conversation.  They speak to us and we respond.  Not in words but through sensations they transmit ideas that are pure and whole and in sync with universal truth and with universal order. Our stories are transmitted and the messages that get sent back to us are the gems of our experiences.  We learn that in the painful moments of our lives that there is always an opportunity for transformation.  We can re-vision our hardships until they are no longer problems, no longer blockages but perfect building blocks of a solid and wise foundation of now.
The crystals themselves are molecular structures fitting together in perfect formations, formations following universal laws of creation.  Like all objects of matter, they have an emanation, an aura, as do we.  It is here that our paths cross with the crystals.  It is here that we relate to them.  They are a bridge to a more perfect union with the divine order of creation. They support vibrations of perfect order, they hold the light when we feel dark.  Our energy, our vibrations can absorb and mimic that of the crystal.  They teach us lessons of sacred geometry and they give us a window into what it can feel like to be in sync with the vibrations of the universe.

Crystal Thursday- Peridot

This week I wanted to write about August’s Birthstone, Peridot.  Its happy fresh color and energizing friendly vibe certainly do conjure up the hot days of summer in my mind.

Peridot has been used in jewelry and healing since the time of Egypt (and probably before that) as a symbol of the sun and is associated with warmth, illumination, expansion and growth.  Peridot’s bright happy green color is aligned with the energy of abundance and with the 3rd and 4th chakras. This stone is cleansing of the aura, and energizing to the process of healing.  It can accelerate growth as it helps us face our past mistakes, release guilt and accept responsibility.  It promotes self forgiveness and acceptance which can in turn help us become open to receiving with grace. It reminds us to look toward our own higher selves for guidance and to be released from old unhealthy patterns and habits.  Peridot is a stone of moving forward, leaving guilt behind, taking the wisdom and growth that only experience can bring.

Crystal Thursday- The Shiva Lingam

I’m quite aware that it has been some time since I have posted a Crystal Thursday.  I am proudly playing the do more things badly card and hereby declare myself an imperfectionist.  Just in case anyone had a different idea about me. :)

I do however look forward to getting back into the rhythm of celebrating the precious kings and queens of the mineral kingdom here each week.

Without further ado, I present a stone most exotic and imbued with historical and spiritual significance. The Shiva Lingam.

The Shiva Lingam is a cryptocrystalline quartz that comes from the Narmada River in India, one of India’s seven holy sites.  The forces of this sacred river tumble the stones into their unique elliptical shape. The stones are gathered by villagers during the dry season once a year, hand polished and then sealed using ancient formulas of waxes and oils.  Shiva means “auspiciciousness” and “linga” means sign or symbol, and these stones are a devotional symbol to the Hindu God Shiva.  The symbolism of this stone is teeming with depth and meaning in the Hindu tradition as well as the modern metaphysical application of this stone.  These stones contain the union of male and female energies; the unusual shape of the stone representing both the cosmic egg from which all of creation is born as well as the male phalice, the active and intentional force of creation.  The red coloring in the stone represents feminine powers that inspire the act of creation.  The shiva lingam symbolizes the power of unifying polarities, embodies the powerful vibration of Mother Earth, and stimulates the forces of kundalini activation.  It encourages loving acceptance towards other ways of being, expanding our willingness to integrate our own shadows with the light of conciousness.

Crystal Thursday- Quartz Crystal

Quartz crystal

Quartz, Rock Crystal
Quartz crystals have been regarded by many cultures throughout time as sacred objects of magic and healing.  The Ancient Japanese believed quartz crystals to represent perfection as they were formed from the breath of a white dragon.  Today, modern science has named the vibratory properties of quartz the piezoelectric effect and is utilizing these powers in watches, radios, computers, and sonar technology amongst other things.  Quartz crystals are used in both scientific and metaphysical applications for enhancement, amplification, transmission, and focusing of energy.  They are powerful crystals to employ in healing, manifestation, prayer, and meditation as their power to intensify our thoughts and the vibrational functions of other minerals is celebrated by crystal enthusiasts.  Quartz inspires a tendency to transmute negative into positive, and its natural inclination towards harmony can expand your capacity toward the same.  Rock crystals are created hydrothermally, in clefts and druses out of a pure silicic acid solution.  They are a primary formation with a trigonal crystal structure.

The above paragraph is the one I wrote to hand out to customers at our store.  There is so much more information about crystals than I could fit into a paragraph, and in fact many qualities about the crystals and what they are able to teach us cannot even be put into words.  They must be felt, must be experienced as subtle sensations within the body.   In fact, I believe this action alone, this sitting still and paying deep attention to the sensations, the energies and feelings present inside is the primary gift of working with crystals.  This sitting and paying attention is an extraordinary method of strengthening one’s intuitive abilities.  The next time you have a chance, just sit still with a crystal.  Close your eyes, and check into your body.  What sensations are coming up?  What messages do you feel?

Crystal Thursday- Aquamarine

Aquamarine
Aquamarine is named for its alluring blue green color, aqua marina are Latin/ Italian words for sea water.  The ancient philosopher Plimy says “the lovely aquamarine, which seems to have come from some mermaids treasure house in the depths of a summer sea, has charms to not be denied.”  The Greeks and Romans regarded this stone as helpful to sailors in calming stormy seas. Buts its most popular use throughout antiquity has been that of a powerful oracle crystal, as it was employed as pendulums, and crystal balls.   Aquamarine is a powerful throat chakra stone as it facilitates clear communication, with others as well as with the higher self.  It glows a serene presence and clears up confusion, and inspires orderliness within thoughts, words, and actions.

Crystal Thursday- Labradorite

This weeks edition of crystal Thursday brings us to a very beloved stone, labradorite.  I would say this is one of the most popular stones, and its magic and mystique is just awesome.

Labradorite

According to Inuit legend, the Northern lights were imprisoned in the rocks along the coast of Labrador and were freed by a warrior when he struck them with a powerful blow of his spear.  However, some of the lights remain forever trapped in the rock.  Labradorite was first “discovered” and named (by Protestant missionaries) on the Labrador Peninsula in 1770.  Its beautiful colors and striking light effect are thanks to an inner laminate structure that bends light.  It is this shiller light bending effect that associates this stone with seeing clearly in dark places.  Its dancing colors of light stimulate creative thinking and remind us of the potentials of our imaginations and new ways of seeing.  This stone can initiate one into the realms of ones magical abilities.   Labradorite is a primary formation feldspar mineral with an inner crystal structure that is triclinic (trapezium shaped).

Crystal Thursday- Choosing Your Crystals

These are pictures of our family store, Mystic Trade Company.  (our website is currently getting an oh so fabulous make-over but this link will work soon!)

After writing down the title to this weeks installment of Crystal Thursday, the first thought that crossed my mind was that I have often found that crystals actually choose us more than the other way around.  So a more appropriate title would be, “How to Find the Crystal That Wants To Go Home With You”.

I had this experience with a pink Kunzite crystal last winter.  I was working at the store one day and was stopped in my tracks by this crystal, I picked it up and my body was flooded with a wonderful blissful sensation.  I held it that whole day.  When I went home that night it kept popping up in my head and each time it did I could feel that wonderful sensation.  I ended up keeping it, and wearing it exclusively for about 3 months straight.  Upon looking into what kunzite is good for I discovered it is a stone that facilitates being of service to others, and having gratitude for the honor to serve others.  That time of my life I was struggling with what it meant to be a woman, a mother and to serve my family in that capacity.  The kunzite brought so much strength and bliss to my home life and my attitude towards the ways in which I could best help serve my family.  I felt a great depth of understanding that even though the role of woman in a family isn’t lucrative per se, it is hugely valuable.  I began to deeply value my work and take great pride and pleasure in caring for the people around me, and I realized what a blessing it is to have others in my life to serve.

The art of choosing your crystals is all about, intuition, deep listening to that quiet voice in the center of your being. That little spot in your chest or belly that *leaps* when it encounters the right thing.  Having crystals in one’s life can and will empower the intuitive forces within.  The first and foremost factor to consider when choosing a crystal is to ask which one were you most excited by and attracted to. There are factors to consider, such as how your piece will be utilized in your life.  Are you looking for a peice that will be used to enhance the healing energy of a space like your home, garden, or office? Will it be carried with you as soul support throughout the day?  Will it hang out under you pillow for dream work?  Is it for meditation or other healing applicatoins?

There are factors to consider such as size, color, texture, and fragility.

Sometimes I’ve choose stones based on different energies I am intending on facilitating in my life.  I will often wear my amber pendant if I am wanting to embody a cheerful disposition.  I hold ruby or carnelian to activate creativity and confidence, opal for some of the same with a whole lot of playfulness.  I love to bathe with rose quartz or jade.  I have used aquamarine to support communication.

Sometimes I have had stones chosen for me in dreams.  There have been periods when I knew exactly which stone to work with because it came through as a strong image in my dream, down to every detail in color or shape(though the size is usually quite distorted).  I have even dreamed of stones that I had never seen or met before and had the exact stone brought into the store the very next day by someone hoping to sell it.

The process of choosing a stone is such a personal one.  There are excellent books that can be used as guides, especially if you are seeking a particular outcome.  “Crystal Healing, Crystal Power” by Michael Gienger is my very favorite.  I also like “Love is in the Earth” by Melody.  Ultimately, your heart, your spirit will know which crystal has chosen you.

Crystal Thursday – Smokey Quartz

This week we travel back to the quartz family kingdom to learn about one of the most essential crystals in a healers toolbox.

Smokey Quartz
Smokey quartz is a member of the quartz family distinguished by its natural brown color that is caused by traces of aluminum and lithium, as well as radioactivity deep within the earth’s crust.  It is traditionally, and widely considered a protective stone, thought to guard one from bad luck.  It is the celebrated national gemstone of Scotland because it has been mined in the Cairngorm Mountains throughout the ages.  These days it is found in many countries including Brazil, Madagascar, Scotland, Switzerland and the US.  Smokey quartz is the classic anti-stress stone, its vibe is soothing and earthy and will help one to break the old patterns of behavior that move one to creating stressful situations in the first place. It is a remarkable clearing and grounding stone, as it breaks up negative thought forms and inclinations, releasing them into the earth for transmuting into more helpful energy.  It is associated with the base and crown chakra, and is helpful in connecting the two, establishing a beautiful synergy between one’s spiritual purpose with one’s physical reality.  It is also a valuable tool for giving purpose and direction to creative energy.  Many healers also use smokey quartz as an aid to offset the effects of radiation.

Crystal Thursday- Amethyst

Crystal Thursday is coming a day late this week.  We are working on night weaning, and it has been a really  huge transition for our little family, and one for the better of course.

So our crystal of the week is……Amethyst!

Amethyst is a member of the crystal quartz family, distinguished by its gorgeous purple hue that is caused by iron traces lodged between the crystal lattice structure.  It forms inside of druzes and geodes and has been found throughout the world but most commonly in Brazil, Mexico, Africa, U.S, and Europe.  This crystal was given its name by a greek myth that tells of when a young maiden, Amethyst, was spared the wrath of Dionysis(the wine god) by being turned into a crystal.  Dionysis was so moved by the beauty of this crystal the he wept purple tears of remorse giving the crystal its color.  “Amethystos” is the Greek word meaning non-inebriated, and this crystal has been renowned for its sobering effects throughout the ages.  Amethyst is a classic meditation tool for it can clear away the mundane chatter of our mind giving us access to the deep wisdom within ourselves.  It bestows a peaceful frame of mind that is valuable to acting for ones true purpose, and from a place of deep inner peace, rather than surrendering to intoxicating desires.  It is helpful in healing addictions, soothing grief and gaining access to the perspective of one’s higher self.

Crystal Thursday!!!

and how could I forget!!!

It’s Crystal Thursday!!

This week….we will learn all about one of my very most deliciously favorite stones…Garnet.

A lovely bouquet of garnet crystals in a mica matrix.

Garnet is the stone of heroes, lovers, and kings and its history is rich throughout antiquity.  It is the stone that illuminated Noah’s ark through 40 dark nights and it was embedded in the shield’s of warriors to bestow courage and ensure protection.  The varieties of garnet are many, but they have all endured a metamorphic transformation, meaning the mineral once existed as a different mineral and by way of a journey through extreme heat and pressure it has been changed forever.  Garnet reminds us that we are not subject to the limitations of our current life circumstance, but through trial and tribulation we have the opportunity to evolve and grow. This is the stone of commitment whether it be to a lover, a purpose, or a daunting task and garnet gives the endurance and strength of character to see an undertaking through to the end.  Enhancing passion, transforming a negative outlook into a positive exuberance, and turning intention into decisive action is what Garnet inspires.
